EMPLOYEES of the Ford motor company in Belfast have called for the boycott by the Irish National Caucus (INC) to continue, according to the organization’s president Father Sean McManus.
He said: The employees feel that it would be a great mistake for Irish-Americans to call off the boycott. They feel that Ford has not done anything in the past year to merit its cancellation. Also Ford s discriminatory record in Belfast has not been the only reason for the boycott. Of equal concern is the company’s consistently abusive opposition to the MacBride principles.”
He said a similar boycott against Coca Cola — for advertising at Windsor Park, the ground of Linfield FC which had been accused of anti-Catholic bias – had been called off as the club was now fielding five Catholic players. Another campaign against Timex, imposed when its owner purchased Belfast shipyard, was cancelled after a four hour tour of Harland and Wolff last month.
