It has Irish Blood on It

Capitol Hill . July 22, 2004 — President Bush has been told to tear up the Spicer contract, because it has Irish blood on it — the blood of young Peter Mc Bride who was gunned down, unarmed and innocent, in Northern Ireland in 1992, by the Scots Guard. The former commander of that unit , Lt. Col. Tim Spicer, is now head of a private security company, Aegis Defense Services, which has been given a $293 Million dollar contract in Iraq.

Father Sean Mc Manus, president of the Capitol Hill-based Irish National Caucus has written to President Bush asking him ” in the name of decency to cancel the Spicer contract as it has Peter Mc Bride’s blood on it”. He goes on to tell Mr. Bush, ” This could undo any credit you gained from Irish-Americans for you support of the Irish peace-process.U.S. dollars should not subsidize such a person as Lt. Col. Spicer. And long-suffering Iraq needs him no more than Northern Ireland needed him”.

” We are determined not to accept this terrible insult to the Mc Bride family and to Irish-Americans. I cannot believe that President Bush would have approved such an outrageous contract. He has got to undo this great wrong. This is going to be an election issue. Iraq does not need the likes of Spicer , and U.S. dollars should not be funding him — and, in effect, endorsing the murder of Peter Mc Bride”, he concluded.
