IRISH CONGRESSIONAL BRIEFING
Distributed to Congress by Irish National Caucus
“The Irish National Caucus was honored to bring  Belfast Protestant Raymond McCord, Sr. to Washington, DC in 2009 and introduce him to  Members of Congress—and to help him get a Congressional Hearing into the 1997 murder of his son, Raymond. Jr.The British government colluded in, and covered up that murder.  Raymond has never ceased campaigning for his son and for all victims. And today he is the foremost opponent in all of Ireland of the British government amnesty plans.”

“Today in Dublin our cross-community victims group met with one of the most humble and pleasant politicians anyone could meet. The Taoiseach could not have been more supportive and transparent, ” NO AMNESTIES”. No halfway house agenda with this man. He and his team listened respectfully and intently and heard how we can all work together to stop the British government’s shameful amnesty proposals of no prosecutions of the murderers of thousands of innocent men, women, and children.
Politics and religion were irrelevant. Today we all jointly seek truth and justice. I praised all those who are helping us in one or another including American politicians, Mark Daly, Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney,  every major party in Ireland and the UK (except the Tories) Father Sean McManus and the Irish National Caucus and, now,  the icing on the cake—the Taoiseach of Ireland. He has accepted an invitation from me to meet with our group in Belfast and in true Irish hospitality he accepted an invitation to have a pint of Guinness with me in a pub in Belfast. A man of the people. As a member of the Unionist community, I greatly welcome his response today as all our group did. We see the Taoiseach as a friend of all victims. The prospect of American, Irish, and UK politicians all uniting to stop these proposals is another step forward after today in Dublin. Senator Mark Daly and Emer Currie also played a major part of a perfect day for our group with a cross-party group of politicians meeting with us. Again nothing but respect, agreement, and support. We thank them all.”
