Mike Barnicle for a United Ireland

CAPITOL HILL. Thursday, March 7, 2019—Veteran print and broadcast journalist Mike Barnicle came out this morning on the TV show Morning Joe for a United Ireland.
The context was a discussion on the unfair, nasty old trope that Jewish-Americans have divided loyalty.
Barnicle chipped in: “I’m for a United Ireland, but I live in this country.” A perfect rejection of the anti-Semitic trope while nailing his own colors to the Irish mast.
Fr. Sean Mc Manus—president of the Capitol Hill-based Irish National Caucus said: “I’ve known the famous Boston scribe since I was based in Mission Church, Boston (1975-1978). He interviewed me a few times for the Boston Globe. He was one of the very few voices in the Boston Globe that was prepared to take on England’s oppression in Northern Ireland. (I say England because we can hardly blame Wales and Scotland).
Just the other day I was thinking that it was strange that Mike never said anything about Ireland on Morning Joe… And then—on the second day of Lent—he did it!
So good for Mike Barnicle speaking truth to power.”
