The parole board in Northern Ireland is to release veteran republican and Old Bailey bomber Marian Price from prison.
Price “will be released to her home and to the care of her family and friends,” Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Eamon Gilmore said in a statement.
“Her detention and declining health have led to concerns across the political spectrum in the Oireachtas and I know that this decision will be widely welcomed on humanitarian grounds,” he said.
The decision was welcomed by Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams.“This is a much belated but welcome development,” Mr Adams said.
Price was held “without due process and has been very ill for most of this time,” he said.
“She posed no threat and her continued detention undermined the justice system and the political process,” he added.
