CAPITOL HILL. Wednesday, February 14, 2024.—The Irish National Caucus is pleased that former Member of Congress Tom Suozzi (D-NY) is returning to Congress after winning special election in New York’s 3rd Congressional District on February 13, 2024.

Fr. Sean McManus—Founding President of the Irish National Caucus, which celebrated its 45th. year on Capitol Hill on Human Rights Day, December 10, 2023—said: “Congressman Suozzi was one of the many signed-up Congressional Friend of the Irish National Caucus. And we look forward to his return to Congress. As the photo shows, he met with the famous Belfast Protestant campaigner Raymond McCord and me in February 2020.

The Irish National Caucus had brought Raymond back to Washington for the third time to speak to Members of Congress about how the British Government had colluded in and covered up the 1997 brutal assassination of his son Raymond Jr., who had proudly worn the uniform of the Royal Air Force.

I was very impressed that Congressman Suozzi, at very short notice, went out of his way to meet us—and impressed by his interest in, and knowledge of,  the Irish issue. Indeed, after over 50 years of promoting the issue of Irish justice in the U.S. Congress, it still inspires and gives me great joy to see so many non-Irish Members of Congress standing up for justice in Ireland—Blacks, Jews, Italians, Hispanics, so forth, and so on. That is when America is at its best.”
