Today’s news that the Irish government is taking a case against the British government to Europe over the Legacy Bill will be welcomed by the victims and their families. The shameful Legacy Bill is a Bill to hide the truth over the British government and its security agencies hands in thousands of murders during the troubles. Anyone in Northern Ireland who condemns or criticizes the Irish government over their action is no friend of victims. The Conservatives showed that not only do they not care about justice but they also treated the entire population of our country with contempt with such an abuse of human rights. We all should thank the Irish government for taking the case to Europe. Unionists and Nationalists victims have been given hope by the Dublin government in our quest for truth and justice. This challenge is not orange or green but the beginning of the end of the Bill which we have fought so hard to stop. Thank you Mr. Varadkar and Mr. Martin.

Families of the Time For Truth Campaign Thank Irish Government

Wednesday, December 20, 2923.

The families of the Time for Truth Campaign have given warm thanks to the Irish Government for initiating an inter-state case against the United Kingdom and its so-called Legacy and Reconciliation Act.

The Time for Truth Campaign represents thousands of victims and survivors of the conflict in Ireland and Britain and has campaigned for the basic human rights of victims in the face of Britain’s attempts to abuse those rights.

The Time for Truth Campaign warmly thanks An Tánaiste, Micheál Martin TD, and the Irish Government for standing up for all of our basic human rights and for initiating an inter-state case against the British Government under the European Convention on Human Rights.

This follows extensive work by the families of the Time for Truth Campaign over the last six years to highlight Britain’s abuse of victims and survivors of the conflict. This work included mass demonstrations, peaceful protests across the country and delegations to the European Parliaments.

Spokesperson for the Time for Truth Campaign, Ciarán MacAirt, said:

“On behalf of the families of the Time for Truth Campaign, I would like to thank An Tánaiste and the Irish Government for forming a last line of defense in support of our basic human rights. Britain was and is a human rights abuser. It wanted to bury its war crimes in Ireland and to protect its killers. It wanted to deny our families equal access to due process of the law. Britain’s disgraceful Legacy and Reconciliation Act is an assault on our basic human rights and the Irish Government has heard us.”

“I would also like to take the opportunity to pay tribute to the families of the Time for Truth Campaign who have campaigned with great dignity over the last six years. We pay tribute too to our political leaders, lawyers, academics, and other supporters who care for basic human rights and who have walked with us. This is great news before Christmas and will give a superb boost to the resilience of our families for continuing our campaigns for truth and justice in the New Year.”
