Huge support for call on Irish Government to follow McCord’s inspirational lead.

Take the British Government to the European Court on Human Rights

IRISH CONGRESSIONAL BRIEFING

Distributed to Congress by Irish National Caucus

Monday, September 11, 2023.

There is growing support in America and in Ireland for the Irish Government to initiate an Inter-State challenge and take the British Government before the European Court of Human Rights on the shameful Legacy Bill.

Intrepid victims campaigner, Belfast Protestant Raymond McCord, Sr.

on Thursday, September 7, 2023, filed a legal challenge to the Bill in the High Court in Belfast, under Article 2 (“Right to Life”) of the European Convention on Human Rights, to which the UK is a signatory.

Raymond has maintained a magnificent campaign since the brutal 1997 assassination of his 22-year-old son, Raymond, Jr. Because the killers were “Police informers/ British Agents, the British Government has cruelly and blatantly covered up its State-sponsored assassination.

On September 9, The Irish National Caucus called on the Irish Government to follow McCord’s lead and take the British Government before the European Court on Human Rights.

Fr. Sean Mc Manus—President of the Capitol Hill-based Irish National Caucus—said: “We have received huge support for our call on the Irish Government. The need for the Irish Government (and, indeed its duty) to take the case to the European Court on Human Rights was first raised by Declan Owens— Northern Ireland Human Rights Officer of the London-based Rights & Security International—on his recent visit to Washington. Declan was an excellent ambassador because of his long experience and expertise in human rights issues, and his County Down background.”

Fr. Mc Manus concluded: “This issue is truly important. And it’s perfectly framed: the sacredness of individual and community memory over Parliament and Crown politics of oblivion. For as everyone knows, although the proposed amnesty covers others besides British soldiers and their political bosses, it is not really for the good of the Protestants and Catholics of Northern Ireland. It is all about England’s interests. And England (one can hardly blame Wales or Scotland, despite individuals like Lloyd George or Lord Balfour) is now deep in the politics of oblivion, denial, and cover-up—as it was about the entire collapsing British Empire.

It is time to build up The Beloved Community, as advocated by Blessed Martin Luther King, Jr., in all of Ireland, north, south, east, and west.”
