INVESTITURE CEREMONY OF FIRST CARPENTER LAUREATE OF WORLD PEACE PRIZE

Wednesday, November 16, 2022——The first member of the famed Carpenters Union to receive the World Peace Prize was installed on Wednesday, November 16, 2022.

 

President Anthony Madaio, Carpenters Local 157, Manhattan, New York City, was presented with the World Peace Prize of Roving Ambassador for Peace. The Investiture Ceremony took place in the headquarters of the New York City District Council of Carpenters, 395 Hudson Street, New York City.

 

Barbara Flaherty, a Judge of the World Peace Prize and Chair of the Presentation Ceremony, Chaired the ceremony. Fr. Sean McManus —President of the Irish National Caucus and Chief Judge of the World Peace Prize— gave the opening address explaining the history and meaning of the World Peace Prize.

 

Fr. Mc Manus explained that working for social justice is the heart and soul of the World Peace Prize—as it is for the American Labor Movement. And that, therefore, the Labor Movement very properly is in the category of those who should be considered for the World Peace Prize. He described President Madaio as an ideal role model for the World Peace Prize.

President Madaio expressed deep gratitude for the World Peace Prize, saying he was both honored and humbled.
