RAYMOND MC CORD, Sr. ON BRITISH GOVERNMENT’S LATEST AMNESTY PLANS

Now that the British government has announced in the Queen’s speech (May 2022) that it intends to introduce legislation to deal with the legacy of the past, we all need to join together to stop it.

These amnesty proposals are disgusting and immoral. On one hand, the government is going to bring in legislation of up to 12 months in prison for people protesting on the streets, and, on the other hand, the government declares that the murderers of thousands of men, women, and children will not go to prison for one day; they will not be investigated; and, even if there is evidence to prosecute the murderers, the government won’t allow it.

The government is proposing that we listen to questionable stories from the murderers of our loved ones. The government is asking us to forget about truth and justice and believe the killers. This is democracy British government style. Protesting for your beliefs is a crime but mass murder is not.

On behalf of our group, the Truth and Justice Movement, I have asked the leaders of the political parties on the island of Ireland to meet with us to form a plan to stop this Bill going through Parliament. Already two leaders have confirmed they will be at the meeting.

I am now asking Congress and President Biden to support us. As someone from the Unionist community whose eldest son was murdered by UVF (Ulster Volunteer Force) state-agents, I can no longer say that I can give allegiance to the State due to these amnesty proposals. The government has betrayed not only the victims and their families but also every citizen in Northern Ireland and Great Britain. Terrorists have been deemed more important to the government than its law-abiding citizens, WHY?

This is not about votes, seats, sectarianism, or politics. It’s about democracy, human rights, and decency —with truth and justice for all the victims and their families. Murder is a crime no matter who does it. This is the British government’s shameful attempt to whitewash the murders —and the government’s own involvement and collusion in the murders.
