If  Donlon Had Guts When Ambassador...

Instead of Covering Up for Brits

Capitol Hill. Wednesday, February 2, 2005  --- Sean Donlon, Irish Ambassador to Washington ( 1978 - 1981)  testified before an Irish Government Hearing in Dublin  ( Second Barron Report into the British/Loyalists bombings in southern Ireland, 1972-1973) that "if the British decide they have something to hide, we are not going to get access to the papers".
" It's a pity he didn't say that  sort of thing when he was Ambassador in Washington", said Father Sean Mc Manus, President of the Capitol Hill-based Irish National Caucus. " Indeed, when we charged  the British had a lot to hide-- and when we raised the framing of the Birmingham Six, the Guildford  Four, and the whole record of British violations and State- terrorism -- Donlon consistently ( like his patron, Garret FitzGerald) tried to  deny our charges by saying we were merely trying to aid the IRA. And the then  British ambassador in Washington is on record of saying that he left counteracting Irish-Americans to his good friend Donlon".
" The sight of Donlon, O'Malley and FitzGerald  now running for cover, and  attempting to put distance between themselves and the British Government (that they once served so well  ) is really sickening", Father Mc Manus concluded.
