Fr. McManus, President Richard L. Trumka, AFL-CIO, and Raymond McCord, Sr.
CAPITOL HILL. Friday, February 14, 2010— The justice-mission of Raymond McCord and Fr. Sean McManus is primarily focused on the Congress of the United States. But they made sure to touch base with another
powerful Washington figure—and a man who knows a thing or two about equality, social justice, solidarity,
and peace: Richard L.Trumka, President of the AFL-CIO.
Fr. Mc Manus— president of the Capitol Hill Irish National Caucus—has worked closely with the AFL-CIO
on justice and peace in Ireland since 1972, knowing every ACL-CIO president since the famous George Meany. Currently, President Trumka and Fr. Mc Manus work closely on the World Prize.
Fr. Mc Manus brought Mr. McCord to meet President Trumka on Thursday, February 13, 2020.
Mc Cord—legendary victims’ campaigner from a Belfast Unionist/Protestant background has been exposing
since 1997 British government collusion in the murder of his son, Raymond, Jr.
Mr. Mc Cord was deeply touched by the way he was treated by President Trumka. He said: “I want to thank President Richard Trumka for the empathy, compassion, and encouragement he gave me. He was so genuine that  I will be taking back to Belfast the knowledge that my murdered son Raymond Jr has a true friend in President Trumka, who is supporting us in  our campaign for not only an Inquest but a proper investigation as well.”
President Trumka promised to help in every way he could. President Trumka is a close ally of Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other key Democrats in Congress. Raymond McCord, Sr. is surely right to be encouraged by President Trumka’s support.
Barbara Flaherty—Executive Vice President, Irish National Caucus— who also attended the meeting said:”
It is always a wonderful honor and pleasure to visit with President Trumka. He is an inspiring and gracious leader.”
