IRISH CONGRESSIONAL BRIEFING
DISTRIBUTED TO CONGRESS BY IRISH NATIONAL CAUCUS

US SENATOR CHUCK SCHUMER (D-NY) LONG-TIME CONGRESSIONAL FRIEND OF IRISH NATIONAL CAUCUS. STEADFAST FRIEND OF IRISH UNITY, JUSTICE, AND PEACE IN IRELAND.

Capitol Hill. Friday, June 24, 2022— “No one in the U.S. Congress, Senate, or House of Representatives, has ever had a better record on Ireland than Senator Schumer—and I’ve known him since he first became a congressman in 1980. Since 1982, we have had the honor of listing him as Congressional Friend of the Irish National Caucus on our official letterhead.”
That is how Fr. Sean McManus— President of the Capitol Hill-based Irish National Caucus, and Chief Judge of the World Peace Prize— described Senator Schumer’s record on Ireland.
Fr. Mc Manus Continued: “Congressional 22, 1982 in a signed statement on his then-House letterhead, then-Congressman Schumer said: ‘Having worked with Father McManus and the Irish National Caucus, I know they are furthering the cause of peace, unity, and freedom in Ireland. I am looking forward to working with them in the future.’

This was a strong, bold statement while many Big Name Irish Catholic political leaders were too scared to touch the Irish issue. In this manner, Senator Schumer is like the late, beloved Congressman Ben Gilman (R-NY), also a great Jewish-American, who, God rest him, was fearless on the Irish issue. Indeed, with an almost 50-year experience of getting the US Congress to stand up for justice and peace in Ireland, one of my enduring impressions is the extraordinarily impressive record on Ireland of the Jewish-American delegation in the U.S. Congress …  No Irish-American worth his/her salt should ever forget this.”

Fr. Mc Manus concluded with this note:” On February 2, 2021, I wrote to Senator Schumer congratulating him on becoming Senate Majority Leader, ‘a position he was born for.’ I concluded that letter with: “I know you will have many pressing concerns on many issues but I trust you will keep a kindly eye on Ireland and the need for the United States to remain active in supporting the Irish Peace Process.” And we know that’s exactly what Senator Schumer has done, because as recently  as  June 15, 2022, the headline in the New York  Irish Echo was: ‘Schumer Warns Against Amnesty Legislation, Protocol Moves.’ … God bless Jewish-Americans!
